“If there’s a world here in a hundred years, it’s going to be saved by tens of millions of little things. The powers-that-be can break up any big thing they want. They can corrupt it or co-opt it from the inside, or they can attack it from the outside. But what are they going to do about 10 million little things? They break up two of them, and three more like them spring up!”

The nation-wide response to the final, State Department environmental report on Keystone XL was a powerful message to President Obama on February 3rd, when over 10,000 people gathered at an astounding 283 vigils in 49 states, plus DC and Canada, to protest Keystone XL. Organized in just 72 hours, it was the biggest, rapid-response, on-the-ground demonstration of Obama’s presidency.
Before long, the Supreme Court will be announcing its decision for the McCutcheon v FEC case. Public Citizen, a liberal advocacy group, is leading a coalition of other anti-plutocracy advocacy groups to generate a rapid response to this decision for the day it is announced. The rapid response website, Money out – voters in, explains the McCutcheon case, shows where events are currently planned, has a page to register new events, has links to order signs for events, sample media alerts, etc. Will folks rail against plutocracy and replicate the scale of the #KXL response for the #McCutcheon decision? Perhaps, but they (you) need to deploy social media resources right away. There are currently less than 100 events planned around the US.
The following are suggested messages that people with Twitter and Facebooks accounts can use to help spread the word to folks who prefer democracy to plutocracy and are ready to stand up and say “money out, voters in” on the day the McCutcheon decision is announced.
1) For users of Twitter, there is the Thunderclap tweet to promote the rapid response, scheduled for Feb. 20, and it’s something you can sign up to participate in. What is a Thunderclap? This short video from ThunderclapIt explains:
The ThunderClap will read:
2) Meanwhile, Twitter users can promote greater awareness of the planned rapid responses between now and Feb 20th when the ThunderClap will go out by tweeting:
3) Facebook users can post the following message on their own Facebook pages and on others that people comment on:
The U.S. Supreme Court could issue its ruling in the case some are calling the next Citizens United any day starting Feb. 24th. On October 8, 2013 the Court heard arguments for McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission. Never before has our political campaign system been as corrupted as now with unlimited corporate spending and dark money. Our democracy is eroding before us. But all over the country people are also fighting back and demanding change.
Now is the time to take our fight to the next level and mobilize across the country on the day of the McCutcheon ruling. Have you signed up for a #McCutcheon response event? Do it today: #getmoneyout

Are you with MoveOn or Move to Amend? Council members or affiliate leaders (respectively) can blast this information out regionally and share on their Facebook pages. People for the American Way recently sent a nationwide blast out to promote this to their members. The number of events currently planned can be doubled or tripled even, but it will require effort from readers with access to social media to help spread the word. We still have at least two full weeks to build this rapid response. (The Court is in recess.) A copy and paste effort on Twitter and Facebook won’t take but a few minutes of your time.
It doesn’t matter if you’re on the left or the right. Who, aside from many of the wealthy few, wants plutocracy?
